Cosmic Legions Story
Dec 13, 2023
The snow fell softly upon the frozen ground. A rocky terrain spread wide across my weary eyes as I took my first step onto the unknown planet. Upon the horizon set a golden sun, casting the world in a golden light.
My companion, Aius, stepped out behind me. He, unlike myself, didn't need a space suit. His body was adapted to the harsh conditions of space. If I took one step off the ship without my protective armor, I would be torn to shreds by the amount of ambient radiation on this rock.
“The maletite beacon shows more a few hundred feet east. We can make it there in a few minutes. Grab the gear and let's get moving.” I said, placing a mineral tracker in my pocket and turning to Aius. He was a tall man with ghastly grey skin. His eyes were large and jet black, sunken deep into his skull. He grabbed a bag full of mining equipment from the loading dock of the ship and handed me a flashlight, the only light we would have other than the stars.
“I hope this is worth the effort,” He exclaimed with a sigh, “We could be back on Tarrath right now. If it were anyone else, I would've turned them down on the spot.” I laughed at his complaining. Aius was not a fan of adventure, he had been on plenty in his life. He was old now and wanted to relax and enjoy the spoils of his labor.
“You know I would rather be in a bar on some far-off system too. This job was just too good to pass up though. If we find as much maletite as they say, we won't have to work another day in our life. We’ll be rich beyond our wildest dreams!”
“I don't know, I can dream pretty big.”
